For you convenience - the Internet will be closed Friday, Oct 10 2008
A number of years ago I was walking through the Georgetown neighborhood in Washington DC and I saw a sign on a restaurant - part of a chain of stores - that read For your convenience this store location has been closed. Please visit our store at…. and it provide an address of a store that was over 20 blocks away. So who’s convenience was that for?
Today, just before lunch I was not able to get a connection to the Internet and then discovered that Microsoft Outlook was not working either. It was noon - time for lunch anyway.
After lunch I saw a truly helpful IT Technician and happened to ask him, Is the Internet back up? He said yes.
I walked away laughing to myself at how I had phrased the question. It was our connection to the Internet that was the problem. Then I considered the ramifications of the announcement going out - For your convenience, the Internet will be closed over the weekend while we make some improvements.
They could recommend reading a book - or visiting with human beings. That’s a pretty good idea regardless.
